My Story
Daniele Guevara is an award-winning designer specializing in lighting design, projection, stage design, sculptural installation, and creative technology, based in Toronto.
In 2009, Daniele received a Theatre Ontario grant to assist set designer Michael Levine at the Royal Opera House in London. The following year, an Ontario Arts Council Access Grant supported international residencies with Wayne McGregor Random Dance, Rubberbandance, and Theatre Görlitz.
A 2014 Chalmers Professional Development Grant enabled the development of projection tools using TouchDesigner software. That same year, Daniele created the "Toronto's Crack Smoking Mayor" interactive game, selected for the Vector Festival, and was invited to the Banff Centre for the Arts Convergence Lab residency in collaboration with Moment Factory.
From November 2015 to May 2022, Daniele served as Lighting Supervisor for the Canadian Opera Company, overseeing 36 mainstage productions and designing lighting for the COC's inaugural digital concert series during the 2021/2022 season.
In 2020, the lighting installation "Surround" was selected for the Winter Light Exhibition at Ontario Place. The following year, Daniele was invited to submit proposals for Artscape Atelier's permanent sculpture series at the Discovery Centre at Lakeview Village, Mississauga.
Since spring 2021, Daniele has volunteered with FLAP Canada (Fatal Light Awareness Program), recording over 400 bird collisions and rescuing 104 live birds. In 2022, critically endangered Piping Plovers were monitored on Toronto Island. This work is featured in the short film Field Notes, which premiered at the 2023 Hot Docs Film Festival.
Daniele is completing a Lighting Design certificate at Toronto Metropolitan University and is a 2022 recipient of the Illuminating Engineering Society Award for academic excellence in lighting. Member of the Associated Designers of Canada and IATSE Local ADC659.
